These are some examples of our new studio range called SJOE! – which means ‘WOW!’ in Afrikaans (one of South Africa’s eleven languages) – and is pronounced ‘shu’. We are having a launch at the studio this Saturday from 11am – 2pm.
In this range the forms are all hand-built in charcoal earthenware, sometimes with sprig decoration added. But mostly the surface detail is minimal. There are several glazes used, all monochrome, giving a somewhat gentle and meditative effect.
I am really excited about this work, it is quieter than my usual bright colours and patterns – another side to me I guess!
